"Pleasure Dome"

John King & Brian Baer

You started out a long time ago,
Pitching pennies in a wishing well,
Getting ready for the world you thought you knew.
Imagination that couldn't be beat,
You had the edge, were quick on your feet,
But could you guess what it was leading to?

You grabbed all that was possible,
And stuck it in an empty hall,
You own it all, it's yours alone,
Now welcome to the Pleasure Dome.

Innocence has been swept away,
Now greed and hunger rule your heart,
But in the dead of night, your mind yearns to play,
Oh what you'd give to make a new --
Just how you'd love to make a new start.

Welcome to the Pleasure Dome,
It fills your life, replaces home,
Yes, welcome to the Pleasure Dome.

While basking on your bed of gold,
Reaching for a bit more than allowed,
You dream about your crumbling home,
Where you're throwing pennies to the crowd.

You took all that they had to give,
But never found the time to live,
Now give your orders from the phone,
Locked up in your Pleasure Dome.

You started out a long time ago,
Pitching pennies in a wishing well,
Getting ready for a world you never knew.

Now you've got it, you stand alone.
You've sold too much, your soul in gone.
I fear your bed of gold has turned to stone!

(***repeat "welcome to the Pleasure Dome"... and fade)
